GALEGA
Botanical name: Galega Officinalis Habitat: Europe
Plant parts used: whole plant Active ingredients and nutrients: galegine (isoamilenguanidine)
Therapeutic properties: It is thought that the name of this plant derives from its galactogenic action: it stimulates the production of milk. The Galega actually has many properties: it is hypoglycemic, and is used in the case of mild diabetes, as it decreases and keeps blood sugar levels low. The galegina performs its antidiabetic action with the same mechanism as synthetic guanidine preparations. It is an effective diuretic and diaphoretic in case of fluid retention and decrease in diuresis. Acidosis also decreases.
